Coaching

There is always a need for Coaches and Assistant Coaches in all Sports.

All Coaches for Springfield Township Recreation Activities are volunteers.

If you would like to help out, please come to a Recreation Committee meeting, or email us at email@springfieldtownshiprec.org

All persons interested in coaching must meet the state requirements:

1.Fingerprinted* and background check. (Arranged by the Rec Committee)

2. Rutgers SAFETY Course. (courses are held at various times throughout the year in the local area.)

* The following is the new procedure for fingerprint and Background check

All fingerprinting for VRO (Volunteer Review Operations) nonprofit youth serving organizations must now be completed “electronically.”  They can no longer be done at the local police station.  The fingerprinting has been turned over by the State Police to Sagem Morpho, Inc.  Coaches that need to be fingerprinted, must still contact Sandy Verner – sverner@comcast.net or (609) 894-2976 and obtain the application form with their “special” ID number on it.  They will fill the form out with Sandy who will explain the details.  They then must call a telephone number (on the form) and set up an appointment time and place.  They MUST make this appointment or there is an extra charge.  They must bring the proper ID with them plus the completed application form and a credit card or debit card to pay for the $26.25 fee.  They will be reimbursed the $26.25 when they present the Rec Committee with a receipt saying they paid and were fingerprinted

3. For 2009, All persons coaching Baseball or Softball (head and assistant coaches), must complete the Babe Ruth Certification.

    • The Babe Ruth Certification is obtained via an on line course @ www.baberuthbaseball.org.  The cost must be paid for by the individual.

4. It is recommended that for 2009 all Soccer coaches complete a “F” Level coaching Certificate. ( There is a proposal to make this mandatory for 2010). This is a basic course covering skills, drills, instructional methods, safety and first aid. More information can be found at www.njyouthsoccer.com/coaching/coaching_schools.htm
